Founded in 2014, Children’s Assistive Technology Service (C.A.T.S.) is Virginia’s leading provider of no-cost, refurbished pediatric adaptive and rehabilitative equipment. What began as a local initiative has grown into a statewide resource, empowering children with disabilities and their families through the power of assistive technology.
At C.A.T.S., we believe every child deserves the opportunity to move, communicate, and participate fully in life. Assistive devices are a gateway to better health, education, inclusion, and independence. By delivering individualized, child-centered assistive technology solutions, we help children thrive, one device at a time.
What We Do
Assistive technology is a critical lifeline for families of children with physical, neurological, and developmental disabilities. By providing refurbished assistive technology, including wheelchairs, standing frames, adaptive seating, ambulation devices, bath equipment, and communication devices, at no cost to families, we help improve children’s health, mobility, and communication, promoting independence, inclusion, and dignity.

Delivering Results
When children receive the right equipment at the right time, new possibilities emerge. With access to assistive technology, they can participate more fully in everyday life, at home, at school, and in their communities. In 2025 alone, C.A.T.S. provided 1,246 pieces of adaptive equipment to 1,119 families across the state of Virginia. This equipment improves health, mobility, communication, and connection, creating brighter futures, one child at a time.
