THANK YOU to everyone who gave to CATS on Roanoke Valley Gives Day! 98 donors contributed $15,410.00 in just 24hrs!!! Whether you gave yesterday, last week, or last year, we are grateful to you and the support you provide so that we can continue to serve VA’s children with disAbilties and their families.

The C.A.T.S. resource committee is currently working on a fundraising project to create a unique cookbook that will include family friendly recipes as well as recipes for those with special dietary and nutrition needs.    We would love to have families participate by providing recipes to be considered for the book. 

And they are off and running! That would be the Emory & Henry College OT graduate students, with assist from their PT graduate student colleagues, who are taking on the management of an entire CATS location, on their campus in Marion, VA. On April 17th, nearly 40 students participated in the first Equipment Scrub.

The holidays are upon us!   C.A.T.S. will continue to serve children with disabilities in Virginia during the holiday season, but will have some limited hours so that our staff and volunteers can spend time with their families.   Of course, our website is always open for requests!  We hope that everyone has a happy, healthy and safe holiday season.

The power to go, to be independent of an adult, ever so briefly, to explore and make discoveries is so important when you are two years old.   It changes your life.

For several reasons related to the coronavirus pandemic, C.A.T.S. will be limiting acceptance of equipment donations at all of our locations during the months of December and January. 

The University of Lynchburg DPT program  supported C.A.T.S. on the PT Day of Service, on Oct 10th, coming out to clean equipment as well as selling tee shirts for operational cost support.  We thank all our college student volunteers who help make C.A.T.S. mission successful! 

Radford University Carilion DPT students have completed literature review regarding the efficacy of assistive technology in improving participation of children with disabilities.  This research helps support CATS grant writing team.  CATS also gratefully accepts stories from individuals about their use of assistive technology.

Congratulations and Thank you to all our Hallowheels Participants who caught the attention of people as far away as California, Oregon and even Australia!  The first place winner was Woody from Toy Story; second place goes to Space X Astronaut; and the sweet tooth battle for third was won in the end by Topsy Turvy Birthday Cake! 

A new collaboration between CHKD and Children’s Assistive Technology Service (CATS) is helping children with disabilities live life to the fullest.
